Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - Angles (Sunday Best) ****

12:33pm Friday 16th May 2008

By Nick Churchill »

BLISTERING debut set from the Essex team that rore up Mr Kyps recently. With Dan le Sac blasting the beats with a ferocious elegance, Scroobius Pip lays his lore on the line.

Whether he's bigging up the genius of Tommy Cooper, relating the angry human tragedy behind the title track, or reminding us that heroes are only human in the career defining Thou Shalt Always Kill, Scroob's delivery is totally convincing.

Rhyme and reason flow from his mind in equal measure as Dan retools the hip-hop blueprint to conjure a cry for tolerance, invention and self respect.

Even when Scroob takes issue with Dizzee Rascal and his ilk on Fixed, he does so with an assertion that nothing's personal; while Radiohead's Planet Telex is joyously sampled on A Letter From God To Man.
