Paul Bettany has revealed that his three-year-old daughter preferred his Vision look to his real self.

The British star finally steps out as the superhero – created by Robert Downey Jr’s character Tony Stark – in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, after years of voicing Tony’s artificial intelligence program J.A.R.V.I.S.

He said his new look got the approval of daughter Agnes, who referred to him as ‘Purple Daddy’, saying: “My daughter loved it and she’s three. She was very upset when I took it off at the end of the day.

“She wanted ‘Purple Daddy’ back, yes. She was very uninterested in me daddy,” he added.

Paul said the Vision’s look took months to nail down.

“It was six months of make-up tests to figure it out so it was a very slow process. It happened incrementally rather than being presented with something,” he explained.

Paul, who has starred in films such as Mortdecai, The Da Vinci Code and Wimbledon, enjoyed portraying The Vision on the big screen in Joss Whedon’s sequel.

“I’m never going to get to play someone born on camera again… I hope because that would be weird but he’s born and he’s omnipotent… and he’s incredibly powerful and yet really naive and I really enjoyed that quality,” he said.

He enjoyed getting to interact with his co-stars including Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner.

“The set was really fun. I mean, very funny and they’re a bunch of very creative, entertaining people who are a giggle to be around,” he said. “Robert Downey Jr is incredibly professional, very prepared, very witty and sharp as a tack.”

Paul even threw himself into the stunts.

He revealed: “The stunts were so great on this and we were so well prepared. The fights were choreographed and we learned that choreography. They kept us really safe. I remember in the old days it was a little hairy.”

Paul added: “On one movie I got dropped about 25ft on a stunt rig and it didn’t slow down. It was really painful. But now they really don’t want to damage Chris Hemsworth, although he seems pretty indestructible. That’s a costly thing to damage.”

Avengers: Age Of Ultron is in cinemas now.
