FOURWAYS are well known for tackling difficult subjects and a play of this calibre must be well presented in order for their many followers to be satisfied.

This was certainly the case. With a large cast it would be unfair to single out anyone for a special mention however I really must say the lead actor Ryan Witney was absolutely outstanding.

With a very strong cast and some great performances this was once again an excellent production.

The set was impressive and the lighting added to the general effect. The many scene changes were carried out efficiently and the appearance of a four poster bed was amazing.

The costumes were authentic and the wigs were very natural looking which is not always the case with amateur productions. The authentic music provided by musicians for the Wycombe Music Centre was used at appropriate times throughout the performance to great effect.

Masterfully directed by Jonathan Marks, who is fortunate in having the assistance of producers Carolyn Kendall and Rick Butler which ensures not only the best casting possible but also the smooth running of the play.

As the king gradually descends into madness brought on by a disease the doctors cannot diagnose, the dreadful treatments they inflict on him, either through ignorance or to ensure they keep their positions as the king’s doctors is distressing to see and very sensitively handled.

At the end of the play the gentleman sitting next to me who was making his first visit to Fourways turned to me and said ‘Is it always this good? I had no option but reply ‘Yes it is’.

I think this says it all. Well done, another triumphant performance.
