IN choosing this play The Beaconsfield Theatre Group set themselves quite a challenge and pulled it off extremely well. Written by Ibsen and adapted by Arthur Miller, it illustrates how people can be self-serving.

A doctor discovers the water supply is being contaminated by the local tannery. Fearing for the livelihood of the town the owner who is also the brother of the doctor and Mayor of the town whips the townspeople into a frenzy and mob rule takes over.

With a very strong cast who worked hard on their American accents and a brilliant set which was cleverly designed with slick scene changes this was a play which certainly gave much food for thought. By selecting a controversial subject Beaconsfield Theatre group, demonstrated their versatility and also the fact that no play is too difficult for them to stage.

This was an inspiring evening and left the audience much food for thought for. Playing to a packed house it was evident that the group’s following were eager to support them in whatever they stage. A very interesting evening and well worth turning out on a cold night for.
