A charity which has helped generations of disabled children in and around Marlow celebrated a milestone anniversary last week with a little celebrity help.

Marlow Opportunity Playgroup has provided pre-school classes for disabled children under five for 45 years, and is celebrating ten years as an independent charity.

And to thank long-term donors for a decade of fundraising success, the group threw a party at its HQ at the Wooburn Scout hut.

Marlow mayor Suzanne Brown joined celebrity guest Rob James Collier, who plays Thomas Barrow in Downton Abbey, to cut a cake made for the occasion.

The Playgroup’s Paul Stamp said: “The generosity of the local community has played a big part in keeping the charity going.

“Many parents and children who have been involved with the playgroup over the years attended and much fun was had by all.”

The charity – one of Mayor Suzanne Brown’s nominated causes this year - must raise £35,000 to £50,000 a year to give the additional care needed for their pupils.

It has been based in Wooburn Green since moving from its previous home in Marlow ten years ago, and provides structured play for children with special needs.
