Mini eco-warriors at a Marlow school have taken delivery of some feathered friends as part of a project funded through a Marlow firm following a competition last year.
Marlow C of E Infant School won £500 in funding through a Marlow FM contest with environmentalist and presenter Dave Hampton, promoting sustainable projects in the community.
And the pupils have put the money to good use, building a purpose built chicken coop and purchasing four hens to join the school family.
Teacher Emma Howarth said “The parents and children are really excited that the chickens are now part of the school family and will enrich the curriculum.
“We’d like to thank Marlow FM for organising the award and Deriaz Slater for donating the money”.
The eco-team comprises of Kasper Østbye-strøm, aged 7, Ollie Drever, 6, Joe Clarke, 6, Orla Guinness, 5, Verity Richardson, 6, Ava Parker, 6 and Tyler Page, 7 along with teacher Mrs Howarth.
Deriaz Slater, which provided the funding, went to visit the team last week and check their progress.
Paul Deriaz said, “It is very exciting to hear that our donation has been put to such good use, we look forward to receiving updates on the hens and the wider eco projects Sandygate has planned”.
