Customers were frying high this lunchtime as a Marlow chip shop handed out portions to help celebrate National Fish and Chip Day.

The UK-wide promotion, designed to promote the 'Great British dish', saw Marlow Bottom Fish Bar owner Gav Singh pop the champagne and welcome newly-appointed mayor Bob Johnson to sample the fried delights.

The takeaway has been serving fish and chips to Marlovians for over 20 years, and is one of hundreds of outlets which serve the British public over 382 million portions ever year.

Fish and chip shops sell roughly 25 per cent of all the white fish consumed in the UK, and 10 per cent of all potatoes.
