Roads in Marlow town centre will be closed from the early hours of Sunday morning and others in the district later in the day as the cycling world descends for the final leg of a major cycling tour.

The whole of the High Street – as well as Marlow Bridge – will be shut from 4am as competitors prepare to set of on the final stage of the Aviva Women’s Tour through the Chilterns.

Almost 100 riders are set to leave the bridge end of Marlow High Street at around 11am on Sunday, before heading west through Danesfield.

Cycling stars taking part include London 2012 champion Laura Trott and silver medallist Lizzie Armitstead.

The race then passes through Lane End, Stokenchurch, Piddington, West Wycombe, Bledlow Ridge and Bryants Bottom, before heading up Cryers Hill and into Prestwood and beyond to Hemel Hempstead.

Cllr Julia Adey, Wycombe District Council's Cabinet member for community, said: “We know that as the cyclists speed their way around the Wycombe district, they can expect a very warm welcome from local businesses and residents who I'm sure will be out in force, cheering them on.

“It's going to be a great privilege to see elite athletes in action in a major national sporting event, on our very own doorsteps.”

Many areas of south Bucks and the Chilterns will get a taste of the action with the route winding through Prestwood, Great Missenden, up Frith Hill to Chesham via Hyde End and then through Cholesbury before heading into Hertfordshire, finishing at Gadebridge Park in Hemel Hempstead.

Elsewhere in Marlow, Pound Lane will be closed from 8am to 12 midday from the High Street roundabout to Malthouse Way.

Pound Lane car park will also be closed to the public until 2pm on the day of the race.

For the remainder of the route, rolling road closures will be implemented in order to minimise disruption but ensure rider safety.

As well as the cycle race, Wycombe District Council will be hosting a family cycling and sport festival in Higginson Park between 9am and 3pm.

Activities in the park will include outdoor spinning sessions with Places for People Leisure, scaletrix track, electric velodrome, biking with the Marlow Club and bell boating on the Thames with Longridge.

A host of other sports and clubs will also be represented, and cyclists can visit ‘Dr Bike’, who will give their bicycle the once-over.
