Dragon boats roared down the River Thames on Sunday - but it was fifteenth time unlucky for the only original team in the race.

The jovial occasion features wacky fancy dress teams battling it out to be crowned dragon boat champion along the Thames stretch opposite Higginson Park.

They were joined by the annual programme of canoeing, with crowds cheering on over 120 sprint canoes throughout the day for the Canoe Regatta.

The annual Marlow Dragon Boat Festival was won by race regulars Old Farts and a Tart in the team’s seventh attempt at the title. Sinkers finished second place ahead of the Rowbots.

But The Marlow Alpine (Ageing) Dads are still awaiting their maiden victory after finishing fifth in the dragon boat race.

They took part in the inaugural challenge in 2000 and were the only original competitors in Sunday’s dragon boat showdown.

In total, 21 teams furiously rowed their brightly coloured boats down the Thames with many teams raising money for charity.

Event organiser Lauren Kirkman said: "It was fantastic to have so many teams taking part and spectators watching.

"The sense of community was great and we can’t wait to do it all again next year."

The Dragon Boat Festival has occupied the second day of the Town Regatta calendar since the move of the original regatta to Dorney Lake in 2000.
