One of the hardest working figures in the Marlow community was honoured for his role in almost every public event in town throughout the year.

Tim Ashburner, founder of Marlow FM, received mayor Bob Johnson’s Community Award for his tireless commitment to promoting people and events in town through his broadcasting work.

After starting the not-for-profit venture in 2007, the station received its community FM licence and began transmitting in 2011.

Despite being the third smallest station in the country, Marlow FM now boasts 137 volunteers, with Tim revealing the station does more outside broadcasting per year than the top two stations put together.

And the volunteer staff, who between them present over 20 shows spanning niches and genres, celebrated three years of successful broadcasting earlier this month.

Cllr Johnson praised Mr Ashburner’s dedication as a "great community advocate", which sees him and the team broadcast live from almost every public event in the social calendar.

Accepting the award, Tim said: "Thank you so much for this, you kept this very quiet. This is on behalf of the people who take part in Marlow FM.

"Marlow is a really nice town, very community orientated. It is a very sweet town and a place you should all be very proud of.

"I am very proud to accept this award on behalf of all the people at Marlow FM."

All last week the station, which operates on the smallest budget of any station at around £10,000, broadcast live from Starbucks on the High Street as part of the Love Marlow festival.
