Staff and students at a top agricultural college are celebrating a turnaround after Ofsted inspectors praised the management and quality of teaching at the campus.

The Berkshire College of Agriculture - which welcomes more than 30 per cent of its students from Bucks - stepped up from "requires improvement" to achieve a "good" rating in the body’s latest report.

The report highlighted and praised many aspects of the college, and credited staff with overcoming problems identified in the last inspection such as inconsistent assessments and lack of pupil progress in English and Maths.

BCA Principal, Gillian May said, "We are immensely proud of this achievement. This has been a whole team effort and rightly recognises the scale of improvements made at BCA.

"I would like to say a huge thank you to the students, staff and governors for their wholehearted commitment to this success.

"The inspection outcome demonstrates that our journey to Outstanding is well underway and we look forward to building on this recognition.

"I am sure the community will take pride in this outcome for its local College and will continue to support us to deliver a high-quality learning experience for all of our students."

Inspectors praised the "culture of high expectations" instilled by staff and management.

In its report, Ofsted said: "They provide an inclusive, friendly and lively learning environment in which learners from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities thrive.

"A high proportion of teaching and learning is good. Teaching, learning and assessment are often outstanding in sport and public services."
