A celebrity, who is yet to be revealed, will flick the switch on Marlow’s Christmas lights next month.

The annual Switch on and Shop event will take place on Thursday, November 19 from 6:00 pm, where the celebrity will do the honours from the top of a double decker bus on the high street.

Shops will be open late and there will be offers and Christmas displays throughout the town whilst Marlow FM and Next Stage Choir raise spirits with festive songs.

The event will start at 6pm and the High Street will be closed briefly at round 5:30 for the switch on ceremony.

All car parks around the town will be free throughout the day.

And the town Christmas tree will be a point of interest this year where 100 baubles carrying individual messages from Marlovians will be displayed.

Bucks Free Press:

The baubles cost £30 and everyone buying one will be invited, with three guests, to a festive drinks reception with the town mayor, Cllr Bob Johnson, on Thursday, November 19.

All proceeds made will go towards the Christmas lights, which came under threat last year after WDC funding was stopped following the devolution of the job to the town council two years ago.

Town council clerk, Annie Jones said: “It’s great that the lights are going ahead again this year and it is all thanks to our amazing sponsors.

“They are fantastic lights, and word really gets out far and wide about them.

“I have even had someone who does not have anything to do with Marlow tell me how fantastic they are.”
