A primary school that was put into special measures has been ‘reborn’ according to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

Bisham Primary School on Church Lane, Bisham, came under fire last year after an inspection from Ofsted deemed it as ‘inadequate’.

But after the appointment of interim head, Jane Foster, and executive head, Helen Daniels, Cllr David Evans, from the RBWM, has said he is very impressed with the improvements made to the school so far.

He said: “They have taken on board the issues and they have very clear records as to how well the children are doing.

“Action plans and interventions have been put in place to help the children’s progress. I think the plans are there and the results are really beginning to show.”

Then head, Jim Cooke, was forced to step down after the Ofsted report found a whole host of issues with the school to do with teaching, leadership and behaviour.

And a number of parents pulled their children out then then 115 pupil school after the RBWM stepped in following the inspection.

However Cllr Evans believes parents should now seriously consider sending their children to the school, which was deemed 'good' by Ofsted prior to its demise.

He said: “The quality of the new a staff is really high. They are putting in robust teaching procedures and challenging targets. The children’s progress is monitored.

“In one sense it’s not rocket science but it is the fundamentals.

“We are responsible for scrutinising education matters and last year the school came to use on several occasions.

“People thought we were on a mission to close the school – this is not the case. We just wanted to restore the balance.”

And Cllr Evans said the next step is increasing numbers in the school – which currently stands at 42 pupils.

He said: “If parents went to the open days they would be able to see for themselves the changes have taken place and the enthusiasm of the new leader ship in the school.”
