The life of a WW1 soldier from Marlow was remembered this week to mark the 100th year since he died in combat.

The Marlow Remembers WW1 association marked the anniversary of Private Albert Oxlade’s death on Tuesday January 19 at a graveside service at the Church of St Peter and St Paul.

The service is part of a new initiative launched by the group, which plans to hold memorials at the graveside of every Marlow serviceman buried in the town on the 100th anniversary of their death.

The Medmenham born Private Oxlade died in London after suffering injuries in the battle of La Basse in 1916.

Jean Shepherd, Private Oxlade’s great niece and her husband Roger attended the service along with Medmenham residents.

His life story was read out followed by poems associated with WW1 and the prayers were led by Padre John Bustin.
