A series of workshops educating teenagers and their parents about risks involved with the use of technology and social media will be on offer in Bourne End next month.

‘Youth Matters in a Digital Age’ are three talks that will take place in Cores End Church at the end of February and the beginning of March given by police and medical professionals.

Session topics include building emotional resilience, digital safety – which will be run by the neighbourhood policing team - and a workshop aimed specifically at youth workers.

Brains behind the initiative, clinical psychologist Alison Wheeler said communication between parents and their children about such issues is vital.

She said: “Through my professional work I'm aware that most secondary schools are great at providing young people with information on these sort of topics.

“What I have felt is often missing is the opportunity for both parents and adolescents to hear the same information at the same time and discuss it together and finding ideas and solutions that will work within their family.”

The first session will take place on Monday, February 22 followed by Friday February 29 and Monday, March 7.
