Nearly 100 senior citizens, including Marlow’s oldest resident, joined the town mayor for a lavish lunch at the weekend for one of the best loved events in the town’s calendar.

Ruth Hillsdon, who turned 106 in November, was among the 90 guests hosted by Cllr Bob Johnson at Court Gardens on Saturday at the town council’s annual senior citizens lunch.

The popular lunch for over 65’s gives pensioners from around Marlow the chance to get together and enjoy a three course meal, speeches and entertainment.

Cllr Johnson said: “I am so pleased to be able to host this event with my fellow councillors and to recognise the important part played by all our senior citizens in helping to build and maintain our fantastic community in Marlow.

“We are also very privileged to have Marlow’s leading senior citizen with us today. Ruth Hillsdon is 106 years of age and is a great example to us all.

“I had the honour to be invited to her birthday tea party shortly before Christmas and I’m happy to say I have never met anyone with such a zest for life.”

Due to its popularity the New Year meal runs on a rota basis as it is oversubscribed. If you do not think you are on the council’s database to receive an invitation for next year, please contact the MTC office on 01628 484024.
