A Marlow primary school is embarking on a mission to raise an ambitious £20,000 to have solar panels installed on its roof.

Marlow Infants C of E School on Sandygate Road is calling for community support in the scheme which would add £3000 to the schools budget each year for other resources.

It is just 1 of 20 schools to land a place on the national solar schools project – a government scheme which allows schools to generate electricity through solar power and sell it back to the National Grid through feed tariffs.

And in light of the recent subsidy cuts to solar power, it was one of the last schools to secure a place on the project before it was thrown out by the government.

Parent governor, John Northover said: “All schools are facing tighter and tighter budgets each year and we are appeal the local community to help us create a legacy for the school.

“This amazing project gives us the opportunity to provide much needed finances to support the enrichment of the children’s education.”

The school will begin by approaching businesses in the area requesting £250 as well as offering sponsorship packages for larger donations.
