Marlow Fire Station will open its doors to potential new recruits tomorrow evening and give a unique insight in to the life of an on-call firefighter.

The station – on Parkway – will welcome visitors from 7:30pm to 9:30pm on Tuesday, February 9 where they will be able to talk to firefighters and officers about life as an on-call firefighter.

There will be an opportunity to attempt physical and written tests that applicants have to pass to be considered for a role.

Whilst on-call firefighters are paid and do the same job as full-time firefighters, they are not based in the station and remain on standby waiting to be called out.

Crew commander, Dave James, said: “Visitors will be able to talk to firefighters and officers about what is actually involved in being an on-call firefighter.

“We are hoping that people who haven’t previously considered applying will stop and ask themselves whether they can, in fact, provide cover at critical times of the day or night."
