The landlord of a historic Marlow pub will be pouring his last pint next week before the watering hole is taken over by a chain.

Anthony Burnham, who heads up the Two Brewers on St Peters Street, will be waving farewell to his beloved pub after seven years on February 13, when it will be taken over by Bermondsey Inns.

Mr Burnham – who said he is leaving to pursue other interests – had to bring the pub back from its ashes in 2013 after a fire tore through it causing him to lose ‘all his worldly possessions’.

Since the devastation, the pub went from strength to strength gathering ‘one of the biggest followings’ in the town, according to Mr Burnham.

The publican was rumoured to have hosted some of the Clooney wedding party in 2014, with stations including channel 5 and ITV knocking on his door- but he remained tight lipped over the possibility.

As one of the oldest bars in Marlow, the popular pit stop is famous for 19th century writer Jerome K. Jerome writing his novel Three Men in a Boat in the pub overlooking the Thames.

Mr Burnham said: “After nearly 7 years of running the Two Brewers, I decided that it was time for me to leave the pub to pursue other interests.

“After discussions with Enterprise Inns it was agreed that Bermondsey Pub Company would take it on to trade.

“However, it won’t be a true goodbye as they will continue to see me around the town”

The pub will re-open on February 28 after some refurbishment work on the interior.
