A property tycoon - who owns large swathes of high streets in south Bucks - has been named one of the richest men in the country, after making more than £100m in the last year.
Founder of the Shanly Group, Michael Shanly, has been ranked 273rd on The Sunday Times Rich List jumping 50 places from last year’s spot.
The company’s commercial arm – Sorbon Estates - owns a string of High Street properties in Marlow and is landlord to many shop keepers.
However, some retailers fear the high rent prices will force them off the High Street and two long standing businesses last year claimed they were priced out of their premises.
Sorbon Estates has also headed up a number of contentious developments in the area, including the dormant Spittal Street improvement scheme and the overhaul of Windsor House on the same road.
The 70-year old multimillionaire owns nine companies led by Sorbon Investments which were collectively priced at £400m this year.
Last Mr Shanly was worth £320m earning him 319th place on the Times’ list.
