Young pupils have been deprived of their outdoor classroom after it was trashed by ‘unruly’ teenagers during a series of night parties in Marlow Bottom woodland last week.

Teachers at Burford were forced to cancel their forest classes – which are held in woodland behind the school– after broken glass, rubbish and a three piece suite were discovered in the area.

The woodland has become a notorious party spot for teenagers over the years and the school fears it will only get worse as the end of exam season approaches.

PA to the head teacher at Burford, Jo Howarth, said: “There is broken glass everywhere. We have a forest school which we have had to cancel as it is just too dangerous for the kids to go out there.

“The weather has gotten nicer so the parties have started up again in the last few weeks. We were clearing the glass up to make it safe for the children to go out there but the mess is too big for us to clear up now.

“They even took a 3 piece suite up there which we can’t clear.”

“The main issue is the broken glass. I am sure it is completely innocent and there is nothing malicious about it and they don’t know that they are affecting the children in this way.”

Parents of children at Burford School have taken to social media to say they will not take matters in to their own hands and patrol the area at night to avoid a repeat of the destruction.

However confusion over who the land belongs to will make an action plan difficult, according to Marlow Bottom parish councillor, Mark Harris.

He said: “If there is something which is affecting the community's way of life then it is of concern to us and we would like to do something about it.

“First we need to look at who the land actually belongs to then work out what can be done about it.

“What would be great is if we could have a nice police man patrolling the area at night but obviously police have things to do and can’t hold patrols just in case something happens.

“I have mixed feelings about that. It comes down to who owns the land. If it is land owned by the school then we may be able to do something about that.

“However if it belongs to someone else then they may not want parents patrolling their land confronting drunk and unruly teens.”

Councillors will discuss the issue at a meeting of Marlow Bottom parish council on Thursday, May 26.
