The picturesque scenery of an award winning Marlow park was left tarnished by piles of rubbish over the weekend following Saturday’s May Fayre.

Thousands of people embraced the sunshine and flocked to Higginson Park on Sunday for the annual fayre, which organisers - The Marlow and District Round Table - hailed as the best ever.

However heaps of black sacks, alcohol boxes, and over flowing bins were still dotted around the green space two days later after the private waste company hired by The Round Table failed to collect the rubbish.

This came as a huge frustration or organisers of the Marlow 5 race who had to navigate their way around the mess while setting up for the event on Sunday.

Wycombe District Council then had to take over and clear up the mess on Monday morning.

The neglected scene contested the park’s green flag status - which it was awarded for the twelfth consecutive year in 2015.

Judges last year ruled that the park is maintained to the highest possible standards, are beautifully maintained and provide excellent facilities to visitors.
