A Marlow mum is holding first aid training and defibrillator demonstrations to make people more aware of how to act in an emergency situation as part of a two week long community festival.

The sessions run on Saturday, June 4 in Higginson Park and Wednesday, June 8 at Marlow Methodist church as part of Love Marlow festival.

Claire Street, from first aid training company Child Matters, initiated the idea following the recent incident in Higginson Park when a dad collapsed while playing with his young child.

Mrs Street will also be offering child first aid sessions designed specifically for young mums.

She said: “It was my suggestion on the basis that there was a defibrillator in the park but most people don’t know that it’s there.

“Following the incident a few weeks ago there was a lot of confusion as to why access was denied so I think people need more education on how to use them.

“Everyone should have some first aid training. Unfortunately we don’t have it in our curriculum but we want people to feel more comfortable and be aware of how to deal with emergency situations.

“As a mother of three children and having worked in a children’s A and E for a number of years there needs to be education on how to deal with an incident should it arise rather than panic.”

The sessions will be running continuously from 10.00 until 12 on June 4 and 9.15 to 11.30 on June 8.
