People of all ages – including a boy as young as four – took part in free first aid training as part of Love Marlow festival at the weekend.

In order to raise awareness about the defibrillator installed in Higginson Park, Marlow mum, Claire Street, held first aid training sessions in the green space on Saturday, June 5.

Mrs Street, who runs family first aid training company Child Matters, said the day was hugely successful, although the majority of people she spoke to did not know the defibrillator was there.

She said: “It was good. People enjoyed it and they were very keen to take part. There were lots of people milling about.

“We trained about 40 people and children took part too. A boy as young as four had a go, he was really very bright. I wish we had more time to do it. We were still there at half past 12.

The mother of three decided to hold the first aid training following an incident in March when a dad collapsed while playing with his son in the park.

She continued: “People I spoke to didn't know the defibrillator was there at all. I was going round Costa to raise awareness about it. Some people don’t know what they are and others did not know we had that there.

“People would come along and ask what we were doing. I would say more people didn’t know there was a defibrillator there than those who did.”

A second first aid training day specifically for mums is taking place tomorrow (June 8), although the session is fully booked.
