Guy Fawkes will be the official starter at this year’s Marlow Half Marathon on November 6. The Marlow Half Marathon and Marlow 7 are both being hosted by Marlow Striders at Marlow Sports Club and has been running for more than 25 years. More than £155,000 has been raised for local charities, with proceeds this year going to Carers Bucks, Thames Valley Air Ambulance and Marlow Sports Club. Both races start at 9.30am. Buy or browse local food, crafts and services at Marlow Community Market this Saturday (September 24). Pick up produce like apple juice, bread, cakes, cheese and eggs, as well as candles, face painting and jewellery. The market is held on the last Saturday of every month from 9.30am until 1pm at Liston Hall in Chapel Street.
 

Tree pits in the High Street have been given a new lease of life by the town council. The damaged and cracked pits have been repaired, with new resin-bonded gravel added.
 

Discover a treasure trove of jewellery, porcelain, silver, glass, collectables, antiques and vintage treasures at Marlow antiques and vintage fayre on the first Saturday of every month (next one – October 1). Hot and cold refreshments are available and the fayre runs from 9am until 4pm at Liston Hall in Chapel Street.
 

Cheer on more than 400 runners as they attempt to run the fastest marathon ever in support of Stand Up to Cancer. The Sprintathon will see 422 runners in teams of four, each running 100 metres at Marlow Running Track in a bid to make history on Saturday, September 24. There is limited space at the venue, but you can also follow the event on Sprintathon’s social media channels – the race starts at 2pm.
 

Marlow Town Band will be performing on Saturday, September 24, in a joint project with Wycombe Orpheus Choir. The concert will raise money for Helen and Douglas House, a charity that provides hospice and palliative care to children and young adults. The evening concert, which starts at 7.30pm, will take place at John Hampden Grammar School in High Wycombe.
 

The Marlow Amateur Operatic Society will present Diamonds are Forever – a celebration of songs, past and present – on October 6 from 8pm. Following the sell-out success of their spring musical, Legally Blonde, MAOS are back to celebrate their diamond jubilee year with a sparkling new show. Speaker, Professor Martin Bell, will give a talk entitled ‘The Old Straight Track Revisited and Revised’ - understanding the dating patterns of mobility in prehistory - at the Garden Room in Liston Hall from 8pm. This is a joint event with Archaeology in Marlow, with admission for AIM and MAS members, £3, £4 for visitors.
 

Talented Liverpudlian guitarist Gary Potter brought his ‘Hot Club’ group to Marlow Jazz Club last Tuesday night, treating a crowd in the Royal British Legion Hall to a swinging programme of music in the Django Reinhardt style. Gary was well supported by Nils Solberg on rhythm guitar, Andy Crowdy (bass) and an animated performance from the former ‘Riverdance’ violinist Noreen Cullen.
