The lorry driver who damaged Marlow Bridge is "no longer employed" by the European haulage company he worked for.

The bridge - a main route for commuters through Marlow - has been closed for more than a week after a driver for Girteka Logistics attempted to cross it.

Kristian Kaas Mortensen, a spokesman for the Lithuanian company, confirmed that the driver no longer works for them.

He said: "The driver is no longer employed in our company.

"I can’t comment on particular details of an individual's personnel records. In general we only use experienced drivers with international driving backgrounds."

New drivers for the haulage firm have to pass their driver's academy practical and theory tests.

It was announced last week that the bridge could be closed for up to six months and cost £100,000 to £200,000 "or more" to repair.

Mr Kaas Mortensen said they are in "direct communication" with Bucks County Council and Marlow Town Council and provided their insurance details.
