- Cub scouts from Marlow were transported on an animal adventure as they took over Whipsnade Zoo for the day to celebrate 100 years of scouting. The 1st Danesfield Scout Group headed to the zoo on September 24 and got close to the big cats, watched sea lions race underwater, fed giraffes and spotted the Asian elephants in their paddocks. Thousands of young people from across the country took part in the Cubs100 Takeover Day to help mark ‘The Wildest Birthday Ever’. Chief Scout Bear Grylls said: “This is a fantastic way to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Cub Scouts in style. I really want to thank all the inspiring volunteers and people involved in making Cubs100 happen. Let’s make the next 100 years even more life-enhancing for many millions of young people.”

- Find out the latest research on King Richard III with an interesting talk by Mathew Morris, organised by Archaeology in Marlow, on November 24. Much has been published since Mathew last gave a talk in May 2014 about the discovery of Richard III under a Leicester car park. Mathew will update guests on the latest research on Richard III and the excavations at Grey Friars friary, where Richard’s remains were found. The talk will start at 8pm in the Main Hall, Liston Hall, Chapel Street. Tickets are £4.

- High Street coffee shop, The perch, is running a host of different Halloween children’s activities over the October half term. Join them on October 28 from 3pm until 4pm in making witches hat pizza and spooky smoothies, which the mini chefs can enjoy afterwards. On October 25 from 3pm until 4pm, children can get creative and make a Halloween mask.

- The relatively new and dynamic pairing of two top multi-instrumental saxophonists is coming to Marlow. Award-winning Alan Barnes locks horns with the extrovert Gilad Atzmon for an appearance at the Marlow Jazz Club at the Royal British Legion Hall in Station Approach. - Kids can enjoy sports, games, autumn-themed arts and crafts, fancy dress, laser tag, inflatables and Nerf at a fun-packed October half term holiday camp from October 24 until October 28. The Get Active Sports camp, which is suitable for children aged four and above, will run from 8am until 6pm throughout the week at the Redgrave Sports Centre on Wycombe Road. - The Crowne Plaza is getting into the Halloween spirit this year with both a kids and an adults spooky party. Children can enjoy an afternoon of fangtastic fun on October 28, with Dave the Disco providing the disco and entertainment, fabulous face painters, bouncy castles and a prize for the spookiest fancy dress costume. The party will go on from 4pm until 7pm and costs £15 per ticket for children aged three to 12. The adults Monster Mash Disco will take place the next day (October 29), with DJ Dave the Disco. Dress to distress and enjoy the fun from 8pm until 1am.

- Take part in a quiz night at Bisham Abbey on October 26 in aid of the Bisham Church funds. Tickets are £10 each, which includes a welcome drink and supper. - Enjoy an evening of African and Caribbean food and music in aid of children from Malawi on Saturday night. There will be music, an African fashion display and food from the Caribbean, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. The money from the October 15 event will go to children in Malawi as part of the The Hippopot Project. The evening starts at 7pm in the The Pugin Rooms, St Peter's Catholic Church, St Peter Street. - Join the Marlow Society on October 17 for a talk by Andy Ford called ‘From Beer to Bombs - The Role of the Wethered Brewery during WW1.’ The fascinating talk will be held in the Garden Room at Liston Hall from 8pm. it costs £1.50 for members, £3 for non-members.

- Make a start on your Christmas shopping early with a visit to the Marlow Information Centre. This year’s Christmas shop, complete with cards and gifts, has now opened. The cards are sold in aid of charity and this year’s selection features some picturesque winter views of Marlow and West Wycombe.

- The Battle of Hastings took place 950 years ago this year, on October 14 1066. Every part of England was affected by the outcome. On Saturday, October 15 from 1-5pm, Marlow Museum will be commemorating the Norman Conquest with a display of a replica Bayeux Tapestry, hand embroidered by Jane Walton, a friend of the Museum. All are welcome, admission free. There are also children's activities at the Museum at Court Garden. In addition, this will be your last chance to see the exhibition, due to finish at the end of October, on the life and times of the man who gave his name to Marlow's famous riverside park, General Sir George Higginson. A new exhibition starts in November so look out for details.
