A Marlow community group has celebrated a successful ten years since it was first set up.

The Marlow and District U3A marked their tenth anniversary with a celebration lunch at Harleyford Golf Club on October 14.

The Marlow branch of the U3A – which stands for University of the Third Age - has more than 700 members.

The U3A movement provides opportunities for retired and semi-retired members of the community.

More than 90 members of the Marlow branch attended the “magical” lunch, including some of the original members of the steering committee who formed the organisation in September 2006.

After enjoying lunch, members were entertained by magician and mentalist, Ian Souch.

Event organiser, Susan Spearman, said: “It was wonderful to see so many of our members enjoying themselves and we are very grateful to Ian Souch for putting the magic into our event with his amazing tricks.”

The group meets regularly to enjoy more than 70 different activities in members’ homes or other venues, while meeting up monthly to listen to an invited speaker.

Jim Wright, chairman of the Marlow U3A, said: “This is our final event celebrating our tenth anniversary and we are really ending on a high note.”

U3A members, Mary and Lewis Green added: “It was the perfect way to celebrate 10 happy years with Marlow U3A.”
