Work is well underway on the construction of a new marina on an iconic Marlow estate – that will be three times the size of the old one.

The new marina basin at the Harleyford Estate is being built next to the existing one but will provide an extra 148 berths for boats.

Work began on the new marina in August and is scheduled to be finished by April 2017.

The new basin, when completed, will be connected to the existing marina via a 14m wide entrance channel.

The current marina offers boat sales, maintenance, electricity and water access, a hard standing boat area, pump out and waste disposal, shower and laundry facilities, a seasonal floating restaurant and an 18-hole championship golf club.

The construction of the new marina will also include new access roads, electrical service bollards, pontoons, parking facilities as well as landscaping.

The transformation is being completed by Greenford Ltd.

Greenford Project Manager Jon Samuel, who is in charge of the works, said: “We are looking forward to delivering this next phase of such a carefully considered site. We are taking extra care to ensure its delivery in not only of the highest quality and within a timely manner, but also with the greatest consideration of the Estate as well as the existing Marina’s residents and visitors.”

The marina was established in 1950 and is owned and managed by the Harleyford Estate.

Marina General Manager Mark Pearce said he was “looking forward” to the completion of the works.

He said: “Harleyford had the first gravel pit to be used as a marina back in the late 1960s and it’s very pleasing to see this new development come to fruition.”
