Bake Off star, Mary Berry, will flick the switch on Marlow's Christmas lights this evening.

The Penn resident will climb to the top of a double-decker bus outside The Chequers pub in the High Street to turn on Marlow’s popular Christmas lights display, illuminating the town with twinkling Christmas trees and garlands of fairy lights.

Snow will also begin to fall from 5.30pm as the town starts its Christmas countdown in style.

To add to the authentic Christmas scene, there will be carols and songs from the Marlow Choral Society, Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School Gospel Choir and the Tapestry Choir.

Shops will open late, and there will be special promotions, offers and Christmas displays throughout the town, while Marlow FM will be playing festive songs all evening.

Mary joins a long line of local celebrities who have switched on the Christmas lights in Marlow.

Last year, Marlow resident and Olympic rower, Steve Redgrave, was given the honour, while a year before that, Tom Kerridge flicked the switch.

This year’s Switch on and Shop starts at 5.30pm, and the High Street will be closed from 5pm until 7.30pm for the switch-on ceremony.
