A pet-owner has been fined for failing to clear up his dog’s poo.

Paul Brzezicki, from Marlow, was slapped with a £50 fixed penalty notice after Wycombe District Council’s dog warden saw his dog fouling and running around unattended in Sappers Field in Wooburn Green.

After failing to pay the fine, ignoring a reminder and a court summons, Wycombe Magistrates Court found the matter proved in his absence and ordered Mr Brzezicki to pay a £250 fine, £240 legal costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Cllr Jean Teesdale, Wycombe District Council’s cabinet member for environment, said: “I know that having a dog means that I have to take responsibility for clearing-up after them.

"It’s not only selfish to leave your dog poo for someone else to look at or accidentally step-in, you’re also creating a health hazard.

“This case shows that there are consequences for not being a responsible dog-owner. And if the offender had paid the fixed penalty notice he was given for not looking after his dog properly, he could have avoided being given an even larger fine when the matter went to court.”

The council will fine or prosecute people who fail to clean up after their dog where this is witnessed by our dog wardens or evidence is supplied by a member of the public.
