A Marlow School is in the top one per cent of primary schools in the country, according to the latest government league tables.

Teachers and pupils at Danesfield School are celebrating the school’s latest achievement, which also saw them come in fourth place for the whole of the county.

A total of 86 per cent of pupils achieved the expected standard in reading, writing and maths tests compared to the Buckinghamshire average of 57 per cent and the national average of 53 per cent.

Around 25 per cent reached the higher standard in reading, writing and maths – compared to a county-wide average of seven per cent and a national average of five per cent.

Last year was the first year of new, more challenging national tests for all primary school children.

Pupils gained an average score of 111 in key stage 2 reading tests - the expected standard is a score of 100 or more, while the higher standard is 110 or more.

In key stage 2 maths tests, Danesfield pupils scored an average of 108.

Proud head teacher, Sarah Morgan, said: “We are very pleased that the hard work and enthusiasm of the children has led to them achieving results that they can be proud of.

“The teachers and all the staff at Danesfield are passionate about creating an inspiring school in all areas. We have created a culture of learning amongst the teachers with a significant increase in the time and budget allocated to training, visiting schools across the country and leading on new areas of innovation.

“In the past two years the school has invested in astroturf sports facilities, outdoor learning environments and is a leading school in technology. We believe good exam results are a by-product of offering a stimulating and varied school life.”

Sean Collins, chair of governors, added: "We have an outstanding leadership team at Danesfield who have created a very positive culture amongst teachers.

“As one of the lowest funded schools nationally and the lowest in our area we must also thank our parents for their unstinting support of our fundraising efforts that has enabled the school to invest in exciting new initiatives.”
