Three charities are set to benefit after the winners of a photo competition were announced.

The Rotary Clubs of Marlow invited participants of the Santa’s Fun Run in December to take part in a “best picture” competition.

With the help of Marlow Camera Club, three winners - Andrea O’Hagan, Michael King and Sam Carpenter – were picked, with £250 going to each of their chosen charities, The Marlow Opportunity Playgroup, Alzheimer’s Society and Rotary itself.

One of the winning photograph’s shows hundreds of Santa’s – some with reindeer in tow – as they descend on Chapel Street.

The Rotary Clubs of Marlow have yet to announce the final figure for money raised from the annual event, and donations from the 2,500 runners who took part on December 4 continue to pour in.

However, the fun run chairman, David Sutherland, said: “We still expect the final figure to be well over £30,000, and we are delighted to be able to make some early awards because of the Best Picture competition.

“We have also been able to give our 2016 lead charity – Christmas for Kids – a total sum of £9000. We expect many more charities to benefit through 2017.”

The Marlow Opportunity Playgroup, which provides special support to children aged one to four years, who have significant special needs, said they were “delighted” to receive the donation.

Cath Austin, from the group, said: “The £250 cheque is a very nice surprise, and totally unexpected. We really do rely on the goodwill of so many people, and we are delighted that Andrea O’Hagan – the winning photographer – chose the playgroup to receive the cheque.”

The next Fun Run is set to take place on Sunday, December 3, 2017.
