A much-loved school caretaker is set to retire after more than 25 years looking after a Marlow infant school.

Graham Brown, who works at Marlow Church of England Infant School in Sandygate Road, will celebrate his last day today (Friday, March 31).

The former coal miner took up the role after seeing a job advertised in a local paper and had previously worked at Hamilton School in High Wycombe.

He said: “My last day is going to be very sad. I have been doing it for 31 years and here for 26 years. I have got on very well with everyone here.

“I have loved every minute and have lots of great memories.”

Mr Brown, who lives in Deanfield Close, will be joining his wife Georgina in retirement.

Mrs Brown – who was also a school caretaker – said goodbye to Holy Trinity Church of England School in Wethered Road, Marlow, after ten years in 2014.

The ex-coalminer is now looking forward to spending time tending to his garden in his retirement, as well as watching his football team Doncaster Rovers FC.

He said: “I am celebrating my 65th birthday on April 22 and that day, Doncaster will be playing Wycombe Wanderers, so we will all be going down to watch that together.”
