More than 350 young people marched through Marlow town centre to mark St George’s Day as part of an annual celebration.

Marlow District Scouts held their annual St George’s Day parade and church service on Sunday, which saw the whole district’s scout groups come together to celebrate the Patron Saint of Scouting, St George.

Marlow’s MP, Dominic Grieve and town mayor, Bob Johnson, were among those to enjoy the parade, which started in Riley Road, before a service in All Saints Church led by Rev Dave Bull.

Ahead of the service, the colours formed a guard of honour before hymns were sung and an address by Mr Grieve.

It was the turn of 1st Wooburn to head up the parade and organise the church service this year, with 1st Bourne End, 1st Danesfield, 1st Flackwell Heath, 3rd Marlow Bridge, 1st Marlow Bottom and the Vulcan Explorer Scout Unit in attendance.

Jon Dalton, Assistant Scout Leader at the 1st Wooburn Scout Group, said at the end of the service all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and leaders renewed their scout promise and sung the national anthem.

He said: “It was a very good day, we saw a brilliant turnout and everyone looked impeccably dressed.”

Throughout the day, spectators gave donations for Padstones, a charity that provides support and accommodation for young homeless people aged 16-25 years in Bucks.

Following the service, the parade marched into Higginson Park before the presentation of the smartest turned out trophies, this year being awarded to 1st Wooburn Beavers, 1st Danesfield Cubs and 1st Bourne End Scouts.
