Pupils at a Marlow school had a taste of democracy as the country went to the polls last week.

As part of the town council’s campaign to raise awareness of democracy and the voting process, an election took place at St Peter’s Catholic Primary School, in Prospect Road, with Year 6 pupils campaigning hard for their favourite cake from a selection.

Mayor Jocelyn Towns and deputy town clerk Katherine Joy, who ran the election, visited the school to see pupils and teachers vote.

The winning cake was a blueberry muffin which will be presented to everyone in the school by the Mayor on Monday (June 19).

She said: “With this campaign we want to make sure that children understand democracy and to help engage them in the process for the future.”
