A host of dignitaries from across Bucks joined Marlow residents for the town’s annual civic service at the weekend.

Marlow’s iconic church, All Saints, on The Causeway, played host to the prestigious event on Sunday, June 18, which celebrates the town’s community.

The service was attended by the Lord Lieutenant, Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, High Sheriff of Bucks, Peter Kara and mayors and other dignitaries from surrounding areas.

The Venerable (Air Vice Marshall, RAF) Jonathon Chaffey took the service with Reverend Dave Bull, the Rector of All Saints Church, and Tony Threlfall of Churches Together Marlow.

The service coincided with the culmination of the successful Love Marlow festival, a three-week celebration which aims to inspire togetherness in the town.

Morris Dancers entertained guests on arrival at the Compleat Angler for a reception following the service and mayor Jocelyn Towns, deputy mayor Chris Funnell and Beaconsfield MP Dominic Grieve joined in the with the dancing to the delight of spectators.

“The Annual Mayor’s civic service is a key event in Marlow’s civic calendar,” said Cllr Towns.

“Its main purpose is to recognise and show appreciation for everyone who contributes to our wonderful community and for us as Councillors to re-iterate our dedication to the town.”

A cheque presentation was made by former town mayor, Bob Johnson to Mrs Debbie Raven, Chief Executive of Thames Hospice, his chosen charity for his second term of office which ended in May.

The plate collection from the day went to Mayor Jocelyn Towns’ chosen charity for this year, Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Mayor also took the opportunity to thank the organisers of Love Marlow and all who took part for introducing the event to the community.

The festival, which ran from June 2 until June 17, aimed to showcase the best the town has to offer with a string of exciting events for everyone to take part in – including a beer festival, kids’ cycle ride, community picnic, tea party and live music.

Organisers took to social media to praise the success of the festival.

They said: “So many great event, amazing people, good connections and community built. Keep sharing the love.”
