Staff and pupils at a Marlow secondary school are celebrating “fantastic” results from a recent Ofsted inspection.

Great Marlow School was visited by the education watchdog on May 16 and results published this week show that inspectors found the school continues to be “good”.

They focused on the effectiveness of the curriculum, attendance and progress of vulnerable students, their achievement in science and teaching of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.

The inspectors said pupils at the school in Bobmore Lane “behave very well” and are “kind and respectful” towards each other and their teachers, while being proud of their school.

The visit was the first short inspection carried out since the school was judged to be good in April 2013.

They found that governors provide “strong support” to the teachers and morale is high, with parents speaking highly of the school.

The school was also praised staff for undertaking regular training on how to keep children safe from abuse, sexual exploitation, radicalisation and extremism.

Pupils are also said to be improving in science, achieving well and enjoying the lessons.

GMS head teacher, Kevin Ford - who took over the role in September last year - said the report, which has now been published online, was “fantastic”.

He said: “We are very pleased with the excellent feedback that captures the very good work of the school.”

Sally Brooks, chair of governors, congratulated Mr Ford – who took over the role in September following the retirement of long-standing head teacher Geralyn Wilson after 13 years – and paid tribute to the support from parents and pupils.

She said: “As governors, we are really pleased with the result of the recent Ofsted Inspection.

“The inspectors recognised the supportive and stimulating environment that has ensured our students achieve their potential in terms of personal development, confidence and educational results.

“It is worth noting that the inspection outcome is a significant result due to the inspection framework becoming more demanding.

“I can assure you that the governing body will continue to support the leadership team in striving to make the school an even better place, where successful, compassionate and resilient young adults develop and learn.”
