Hundreds of runners will pay tribute to a “lovely” widow who was killed at her rural Marlow Bottom home last year by taking part in a popular 10k run in her memory this weekend.

Last year, the inaugural Burford Bolt 5k and 10k races took place just days after 81-year-old Tina Choules was found dead on the lawn at her Ragmans Lane home on July 6.

The death of the pensioner – which sparked a murder investigation – shocked the quiet village, but race director Samantha Amend decided to go ahead with the Burford Bolt in her memory.

This year, the “peaceful and quiet” Mrs Choules will be remembered once again as the race route passes through the woods she adored near her home on July 16.

More than 300 runners took part in the race in 2016, which starts from Burford School at 9am, and Ms Amend is confident they will be able to match that achievement once again.

She said: “Last year was our inaugural event in memory of Tina Choules and this year we hope to replicate the same success. You can’t really ignore what happened, it is really sad, so it would be nice to mention her.

“Don't forget to also look out for the memory in the woodland she cherished whilst living in Marlow Bottom.

“We have been fortunate to receive support from many local sponsors along with this year's main sponsor Heathrow Community Fund.”

The 10k and 5k route will wind through scenic countryside footpaths and woodland where Mrs Choules created intricate Buddhist shrines.

There is also set to be a fun run for children to take part in and all proceeds from the event will go towards supporting Burford School to buy IT equipment.

Runners will also be able to sign up and take part on the day between 7.45am and 8.35am at the registration area on the school playground.
