Hundreds of runners, including a bone cancer survivor, will take on a marathon world record run in aid of charity next weekend.

More than 400 Marlovians are set to take part in the Stand Up to Cancer ‘Sprintathon’ – a world record attempt to try and run a marathon in relay in the fastest time – at Little Marlow athletics track on September 16.

Last year, 422 runners smashed the world marathon record with a time of 1:46:26 raising £25,000 for Stand Up to Cancer.

This year, organisers are hoping to beat last year’s record with a new team competition element, which will see 105 teams of four compete against each other to win the Sprintathon Showdown trophy with the fastest lap.

Sprintathon creator Mark Evans said: “Cancer is not going away any time soon and unfortunately we lost another family member to the disease since the last Sprintathon.

“This year Marlovians will attempt to beat the marathon record that we set, as well as the one hour distance team relay record (we were 300m short last year).”

Bone cancer survivor and Marlow resident Jimmy Hall, who led the last lap in last year’s race, said: “I can’t wait to take part again.

“Please show your support and donate as much as you can since cancer still has us on the run.”
