A three-bedroom house in the centre of Marlow is on its way to becoming a Bed and Breakfast after plans were submitted for a rear extension and orangery, as well as a first floor terrace and replacement doors and windows.

The house, in Institute Road, will be turned into a guest house after plans submitted by someone named as Mrs Kerridge – believed to be Tom Kerridge’s wife – were given the green light by Wycombe District Council on June 1.

The plans were branded “total nonsense” by the Marlow Society amid fears of housing pressures on the area as a result of the Local Plan.

Now a planning application has been submitted for the construction of a single storey rear extension and orangery, an addition of a first floor rear terrace, replacement of all the front windows, ground floor rear window replaced with a door and the removal of two first floor rear windows to be replaced by a glazed sliding door.

The design and access statement claims the house will be transformed into a “great asset for the town” and will improve tourism.

But the Marlow Society criticised the plans for taking a residential home out of domestic use against a backdrop of housing pressures on the council.
