Generous Marlovians, including comic Ricky Gervais, dug deep to help raise more than £4,000 for Children in Need on Friday.

The A-lister, who lives in Marlow, joined residents and commuters in paying a toll to cross Marlow Bridge for one day, raising thousands of pounds for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

Drivers were entertained by Pudsey bear, who put on his very own dance routines – his favourite being the ‘robot’.

Marlow Round Table, which organised the fundraiser, said its charity buckets were soon “overflowing” with generous donations.

Chairman Duncan Willcocks said: “We were blown away by the generosity from the people of Marlow.

“Last year we couldn’t collect for Children in Need owing to the bridge closure, but this year certainly made up for it.

“We are delighted to do our part and make sure that Children in Need remains such a huge success.”

The Round Table is now planning for its Santa Float, which will tour the town throughout December.
