Brave firefighters walked back into a burning home in Marlow to rescue a cat on Sunday night.

A fire broke out in a ground-floor flat in James Close at around 10pm last night, with firefighters from High Wycombe and Marlow attending the scene.

Marlow Fire Station said the fire was noticed by a neighbour because the homeowner was not in at the time.

It was soon brought to the crews' attention that there was a beloved pet cat inside the property - and the firefighters re-entered the flat to search for the feline.

The cat was found to be suffering from heavy smoke inhalation and was wrapped in a towel to prevent shock from kicking in and was removed from the flat before it was given oxygen by firefighters.

The cat showed "good signs of recovery" but the homeowner was advised to get her checked out properly.
