SCHOOL run mums have been put on alert after a number of cars were vandalised in Great Kingshill.

Parents dropping their children off at Great Kingshill C of E Combined School have been warned in a newsletter about the vandals. The cars, which have been parked in Cryers Hill Lane, are being keyed' - where a key or sharp metal object is scratched down the paintwork.

Roger Dodds, headteacher at the school in Cryers Hill Road, confirmed eight to ten cars had been targeted by the vandals and has been telling parents to report any incidents to police.

here's an idea. why dont they walk their children to school - am sure plenty of them live close enough to do so!

Maybe they've been scratched by the non lazy Mum's trying to push their pushchairs along the pavement that's been blocked by the arrogant lazy Mum's who've parked their cars in stupid places?

Maybe the police could have a look at the parking around that school at 3pm, it's illegal and dangerous in a lot of cases.

Parking around that school is bad, parents park where they're not supposed to, the grass verge on the opposite side from where the school is, is getting wrecked where parents park...being on a hill makes parking extra dangerous. There needs to be a gang of coppers up there knicking parents for illegally parking every morning until they learn to WALK their child to school...so they'll be more room for those who live further away from the school that need to drive as it's too far to walk...!!

I don't understand, the whole point of having a 4x4 is to allow one to park on the grass verge. Is it not?

Its not just kingshill. I live in Downley by the Downley school and my car was keyed to hell the other day along with a couple of others in my road. well over £1000 of damage to my car by some f**k who somehow mistook my rollcaged out race car for a school mum car....

Firstly I admit some parking at the school is bad but this is the exception rather than the rule. The school liase with the Police and send out regular correspondence to prevent any inconsiderate parking. The school has an incentive scheme where children who walk to school get a card stamped to save up for some really neat stuff, mine are well on the way to a pencil case. Also there are a number of organized crocodiles to get the children to and from school safely. The school has worked with the police and council to not only advise on where it is safe to park but also to get the speed limit reduced near to the school. The 30 limit is supposed to be moving further down Cryers Hill to make it even safer for the kids, this is mainly because lots of motorists don’t slow to 30 at the sign itself but 200 yards past it! The school published maps with no go zones for parking and for the vast majority of parents this is adhered to.

Mine often walk to school, a little over a mile each way, and many other local kids also walk, but a popular school with a very small catchment area is going to attract families from out of area and more than likely out of walking distance, therefore it is not always practical to walk in, especially so if the parent then goes straight from drop off to drive to work. Some of them have to don’t you know!

Mrs Dragon works three days a week and so that she can earn the maximum number of hours on the three days a week that she works, she drives straight from work to the school to pick up the dragon’ettes. She parks considerately and legally on the public highway. The car is insured has an MOT and VED displayed in the correct location. But because some nutter decides she shouldn’t, they key the car up so badly that it needs the whole of one side repainting. All of the vandalized cars were parked in pretty much in the same location. We also heard, though this needs to be substantiated, that the post mistress’s car, parked outside the Cryers Hill post office and on private property was also key’ed up. Now if our little vigilant wants some of their own medicine then I am pretty sure we could russle something up, just let us know.

Becky, if you can get the Rozzers to the school to sort this little problemo out then you are a better man than me. All reported cases of vandalism were closed, probably within a couple of seconds, a letter stating the fact posted out the next day, I guess no revenue to be generated you see.

Kazza and Hans do you live in Cryers Hill? I could call you morons but that would be the same as you calling Mrs Dragon lazy and arrogant, she is neither but you wouldn’t know that, you don’t know her, and I don’t know you! So for now I shall refrain from calling you morons.

If the vandal is reading this, and we think we know who you are, please go ahead and explain your actions, we are all ears..

I did not call anyone lazy or arrogant - but if you park illegally then you have to be prepared for someone to key your car - whether it fair or not. My child is in a wheelchair and the times we have had to go into the road to get past a car parked on the pavement is ridiculous - and no, i have never keyed anyones car for doing this - I feel I am a grown up and would speak to the person involved first! I do not live on or near cryers hill, nor do i use that school or any near it. Where 2 of my children go the parking is appalling and we have community police officers outside the school most days of the week to catch 'offenders' - if you like i will have a word with them about coming to cryers hill - of course i could but if i am a moron then maybe i wont.

Sorry Kazza I obviously misunderstood your original comment alluding to parents being too lazy to walk their offspring to school and that you “here here'ed” the comments from Her Flick who did accuse laziness and arrogance.

Please accept my apologies.

Secondly I didn't call you a moron, read it again.

Lastly I also pointed out that the car was legally parked and still keyed, but then if you support this sort of vigilante attack then you are as bad as the vandal.

Now if the cars had been parked on the pavement (I do sympathize with your plight) and been accidentally scratched by a pram / wheelchair when passing I’d be the first to say tough luck to the motorist, after all pavements are for pedestrians and not cars.

The scratches on Mrs Dragons car are definitely not accidental and will cost me in an insurance excess and future premiums to get fixed. If I am successful in identifying the vandal then I shall be seeking reimbursement for my financial losses directly from them.

I sincerely hope you do manage to find the vandal and that they get what is coming to them. NOTHING gives anyone the right to cause wilfull damage to someone elses property. I am presuming that whoever it is is not yet old enough to drive themselves, maybe once they are someone will do the same to their pride and joy - no matter how expensive it is - and they will find just how much it hurts when someone does this to their property.

Well Mr Dragon, if your wife hasn't parked in a stupid place then my comments don't apply to her. Maybe a day back at school to brush up on your reading skills would help? But hey, be careful where you park ;)

Oh and its possible to park legally but still be an obstruction, a little thought wouldn't go amiss when parking at GK School.
