The price of living in Eden

WYCOMBE buyers will be paying up to £300,000 to live in Eden.

Multiplex, developer of Wycombe's new shopping complex, is opening a show flat at its new apartment block in the town centre at the end of the month.

The 34 contemporary one and two bedroom flats at Eden Living have been built as part of the general regeneration of Wycombe's western sector.

Roger Barrett, a director of selling agent Stuart Newmans, is hoping the launch will cause as much excitement as last week's opening of the shops.

Flats in the five storey block close to where the former branch of Iceland was in Desborough Road will go on general release when the show home opens at 10am on Saturday March 29.

Buyers who registered interest in the properties as long as 18 months ago are being invited to special previews a couple of days before the official opening.

"We're expecting the development to do very, very well," said Barrett today.

His office now has brochures and a price list. One bedroom flats start at £195,000 and two beds range from £242,500 to £295,000.

So much for affordable housing!

It would not be so bad if there were shops nearby selling what people want. But to buy a house over a so called shopping complex and then to find that you have to go other parts of town to get your daily goods must be gutting!

personally its not where i would choose to live over-inflated prices aswell. good luck to whoever wants to live there!

I love the addition to Wycombe. Newtown is pretty quality! And I think Oldtown has a new kind of appeal now.
However, I wouldn't want to live in the town centre. And not just because of over-priced properties...

I think the biggest benefit for the resident's of these flats will be that as soon as they get news of a jumper from the top floor of House of Fraser, they get there quick and see all the fresh blood and guts on display. I think the best place to market these flats will be www.ogrishforum.com

I'm sure the forum members will be prepared to pay a premium for the benefit. I went into House of Fraser with my wife and 4 year old daughter today and was absolutely horrified to see that the 3rd floor has a chest high barrier and even a 10 year old child can easily climb over and plunge to a grisly demise. I've never found anything so disturbing within a shopping centre.

I'm not kidding, there's bound to be tragedies where horseplay will lead to the death of someone. But I suppose it's good news for the suicide jumpers. No need to get cold at the top of Newlands car park anymore.

It was a truthful account of what happened when I visited the complex. I have just updated my blog with what I think is the way forward for shopping in Wycombe.

Ivor it is people like you who make Britain what it is.To quote a great Kinks song - are you a member of the Village Green Preservation society?

We aren't going to get a Jones and Rivett cos there is no need for one
And not many people have the need for vinyl nowadays and those that do have mainly specialist dance music and would probably get them on line.
I am dead impressed that you have a computer tho - little bit risque don't you think?

I will be dining out on this for weeks.... marvellous and sheer comedy gold!

I like the shopping list
"Hmm - I need a man's double breasted suit and a washing machine. Where can I go to purchase these items . Oh I know - Eden - it is new and will bound to have all these exciting items"

My shopping lists normally have food and stuff on them - ho hum!

I imagine your feelings of grief and sorrow were almost too much to bear. Alas, I can well sympathize with your plight; I myself was horrified to find that the Zara had run out of dresses in my size, and that House of Fraser did not stock the colour lip gloss I required. Imagine my tears and anguish when I had to cross these two items off the list that I, like yourself, had spent hours of anticipation and careful, but quietly excited, time to plan and list.

My list was alphabetical, and also cross-referenced with another list in which my items were typed (no handwritten list for my bitterly disappointed Eden Day!) in the order of the shops I would be visiting (having researched most hardily on the internet for a few weeks beforehand).

I feel your pain, my dear. I really do.

You are too kind to offer me your sympathy in my hour of need. However, I feel that your plight is far worse than my own.

After all, my dreadfully diminished list was merely full of fripperies, the distractions of a person with no responsibilities, mortage, etc. Not such dreadfully crucial items such as suits and washing machines. You have put me to shame with your woes. I feel so fickle.

I shall hope for a more pleasant and successful sojourn for you the next time you venture out with your list and aspirations.

Thank you for your words of solace. After downgrading my expectations of the complex I am, at this very minute, working on another list of items which hopefully the complex can provide me with. Let’s hope its second time lucky. After all what’s the point of a shipping complex if I turn with money to spend but can’t find anything to spend it on?

A shipping complex!? How absolutely splendid! I shall start making my list tonight, in order to best plan which rudder would suit me best.

Honestly, Wycombe, you old rapscallion. First a shopping complex, now a shipping complex...what further delights does this town of ours have in store for those of us with a passion for lists?

I may laminate my next list. Although that may be a tad optimistic...I daresay I will have to cross things off whilst tearing my hair and weeping.

Re the comments of Eris, High Wycombe on 6:39pm

A small tryping mistake.

Perhaps the people could play the game “of the complex”? We each create shopping list and we get points for the number of items the complex can actually supply and loose points for the items it can’t?

At least from reading this news story we can buy flats there but we just can't buy the items needed for our every day life.

That would be a fantastic game!

We could each laminate our list, swap them, and add a time element!

Should there be bonus points for imaginative replacements?

Sorry what is so sick about having a dancer in a carnival like atmosphere?
There is worse on the average beach.

And I'm sorry what 2 year old is going to take any notice anywa.

It is only your minds that make it sick!

We could also add a weighting factor for how many assistants we ask in the department store knowing full well they don’t stock the item!

It’s like something from a 1970’s comedy show. Go up to an assistant and ask for directions when you know full well they don’t stock it!

How about a 100 points if you can get one of the assistants to jump from the top floor of House of Fraser onto the ground floor below?... And then another 50 bonus points if they land on someone!

There is nothing wrong with dancers wherever they are (unless they are in soho LOL)
There is nothing wrong with the human body - this is a professional artiste. It really is you with the problem here - not the dancer.

Nobody is saying there is anything wrong with the human body. It's not about the human body, it's about decency and modesty. Can you tell me why there is a law, even in our liberal country, whereby you are not allowed to go totally naked in public? After all, there's nothing wrong with the human body. Your argument is a false one and you know it.

The fact of the matter is that some people have a greater sense of modesty than others. While you are happy for semi naked women to be dancing in town centres, others are not... It's as simple as that.

Smokey, would you be happy to sit and watch a hardcore full on sex movie with your young daughter or sister? After all, there's nothing wrong with the human body and sex is one of the most natural things we do as human beings? If the answer is yes, then you need to look up the phrase 'moral values'..... and that really is my point. Some peoples moral values are greater than others..... What's your problem with that?

Thanks a lot. I went to Soho on your advice and I didn't see one semi naked woman. Plenty of media ****, all with the same haircut, but not a single semi naked woman. Can you please sort out your facts. It will only cost you and your 2 year old daughter 2 child travelcards (although the 2 year old may be able to travel free).

We can't comment on anything controversial, yet we have to put up with the constant barrage of negativity from someone who thinks it's funny to call himself Ivor Biggun. I find that pun offensive (not because it is sexual but because it is so poor) and so maybe all his comments should be barred too?

she was a dancer FFS - same as you would see in a carnival or something. And in this context it is about the human body.
What has hard core **** got to do with it - the 2 things are not comparable.

so then we have to ask - would people be as outraged if it were a man with no top on?
I think not somehow
And for the record no I would not watch a hard core **** movie with my younger sister ( if I had one) or my daughter
and just so we are all clear - I am a female - I am fed up with the asumption that I am male.

House prices in High Wycombe have been shielded from the general downturn of property prices in the UK by the promise of Eden.

Currently, Wycombe is in a very good position as far as the housing market goes. Multiplex have priced these appartments accordingly. They will sell at those prices, and I for one would seriously consider buying one for investment.

Ivor, if you want affordable housing, go and have a chat with the council. Affordable housing only has to be provided by a developer if the development is over a certain number of units.

Ivor, get a life. Double breasted suits went out in the late 80's. You are clearly living in the past!

Why is there still nowhere to comment on the opening celebrations for Eden?
Why are we frightened to tell our Muslim Brothers that while we accept the Birthday celebrations for the Phophet Muhammed when they parade through the streets with loudspeakers blaring and people riding in the back of open lorries on a Sunday lunchtime without seat belts but with police co-ordinating the procession, they should accept that the opening celebrations were agreed between the people who financed the long awaited development for the town and the people who were elected democratically by the residents of the town.
To my knowledge Sharia Law has not yet been accepted in High Wycombe and it is time the opening clebration was accepted as a celebration and nothing more. How many objected to the noise the drummers made? Who objected to the fireworks? Why do we have to keep watching our P's & Q's and constantly worry about who might be offended, We are one town and if individuals or groups do not want to be part of that town then move.
