Speed limits set to reduce from tomorrow

SPEED limits throughout Wycombe district will be slashed from tomorrow.

The changes - mostly affecting minor C' roads - is part of review of speed limits in Buckinghamshire.

Jim Stevens, head of transportation at Buckinghamshire County Council, said: "The limits have been provided through communities and on some roads that have a crash record.

"We're not only introducing new speed limits, but also encouraging people to drive at the appropriate speed within the speed limit.

"All drivers, however, have a responsibility to choose a safe speed for each part of their journey."

The new speed limits are:

30mph:

Claymoor Park, Great Marlow

Bottom Hill, Hambleden

C99 Church Road, Lane End

A4155 Henley Road, Marlow

C97, Ibstone and Stokenchurch

C87 Chipps Hill, Piddington and Wheeler End

C106 Holloway Lane, Turville

40mph:

C98 Freith Road, Mundaydean Bottom, Great Marlow

C87 Skirmett Road, Mill End, Hambleden

B482 Marlow Road, Cadmore End and Bolter End, Lane End

A40 Wycombe Road, Studley Green, Stokenchurch

U814 Clay Lane, Booker, Great Marlow and High Wycombe

A4155 Henley Road, Marlow

C98 Chalkpit Lane, Marlow

C97 Ibstone Road, Stokenchurch

50mph:

B482 Marlow Road and Seymour Court Road, Lane End, Marlow and Great Marlow

B482 Marlow Road, Stokenchurch

Why are they always reducing the speed limits in completely unnecessary places?

I don't know, but it certainly SUCKS...The A40 is a lovely stretch of road, and I can't believe they are reducing it to 40 miles an hour. It drops to 50 at Studley green, which is fair then goes back into national before dropping to 40 to go through Stokenchurch, I cannot see the need to drop the speed on that road.

Its so Thames Valley Police can install more piggy-banks... Ooops! I mean speed-cameras... and suck some more of our money to pay for public services. Even the government is feeling the credit-crunch, why do you think so many people are getting fined for parking outside their own homes? They can manipulate this source of income as they please (ie, Marlow Hill made lots of cash and is now 40mph) and they call it road-traffic-safety. Unfortunately there's more to it than that.

thats exactly what its about, i reckon making unecessary speeding regulations is prob more dangerous as it encourages people to overtake or get behind people to make them drive faster etc.

its no wander no1 trusts the police anymore, theyre just as much criminal towards you as much as actual thieves sometimes.

totaly agree, i drive that road daily and theres no reason to drop the limit. theres only one junction that can create a bit of a problem which is just after a corner. which a bit of change, youd be able to see it much easier, or even get rid of couple of the link roads, seeing as theres no need for all the ones there currently are

I can understand reducing speed limits by schools and accident blackspots, but why do it on roads where the houses are set 100yds back from the **** road.

I cannot believe that the simpering nancies at the BFP have censored the word D.A.M.N.

What a bunch of tarts.

Don't get me started about Marlow Hill. 30mph uphill on a dual carriage way was unrealistic - shame they didn't reimburse those poor people when they changed it to 40mph.

I'm confused. But maybe that is the point of the changes: $$$$. Did anybody notice that A4155 Henley Road, Marlow is listed twice. Once at 30 MPH and then again at 40 MPH. Also, I remember several people that have received tickets said that there were no posted signs saying what the limit is and the response from the police is that you can very easily tell by the height of the lamp posts along the road. Are they going to change the height of all lamp posts where they have changed the speed limit. As many have said before, this is just another cash cow to generate funds for the police/council.

don't matter what speed limit you put on the roads - you could have all roads set at 80mph and still some **** will overtake you doing more than that speed.

will it make any difference??? i travel west wycombe to princes risborough daily where the limit is 50mph and am constantly overtaken by people who are obviously doing way above this . and who stops them?????????

i live on the main a40, which is one of the areas where it is meant to be 40mph. i have just heard some **** speed past my house at about 80mph, and thats not an exageration, it happens regularly. i doubt very much people are going to pay much attention to these speed limits to be honest, unless further action (such as a speed camera) is taken. it is probably the only way that these numbnuts will ever slow down.

What is being done on the M40 where all the accidents have taken place in recent months? Nothing! The powers that be are worrying about the minor roads that have very few accidents on them!

The 30mph limits will be reduced to 20 mph if it doesn't generate enough fines. Wait and see.

Also plenty of residential areas in the District that should be dropped to 20 mph with appropriate road narrowing etc.

Also should be greater use of the noise-reducing road surface that amazingly does appear to work!

Yeah, why not have the blokes with red flags out while you're at it.

This is introducing speed limits for the sake of it. For goodness sake- let's have speed limits where there is a history of accidents, where there aren't keep open roads at 60.
