Bucks captain signs for another year

PAUL Atkins has indicated this will be his last season as Bucks captain.

The 41-year-old former Surrey batsman was elected as skipper for the tenth time at the county's annual meeting in Wendover on Monday.

Atkins, who spends much of his time now in South Africa, was not present at the meeting.

But Stuart York, the county chairman, said that Atkins, the third longest standing skipper in Bucks history, did not want to stand after this season.

In his report to the meeting, Atkins said that Bucks "lacked a clinical edge" during the 2007 season, which saw the side plummet down the Eastern Division table, which they had topped in 2006.

He said: "I firmly believe we have the quality, talent and character to bounce back, because the team realise they let themselves down, Our one-day cricket was poor and we must have a good look at how we approach the 50-over format."
