University part of pilot scheme to produce more footballers
BUCKS New University students have been doing their bit in a bid to produce more Wayne Rooneys.
Nine first-year students took part in a pilot coaching scheme for the Football Association.
The FA Tesco Skills Programme, which is sponsored by the supermarket, aims to improve the quality of coaching in England.
Bucks New Uni was one of nine groups to take part in the project.
The findings will help shape the final course, which is set to be rolled out in April.
One of the people attending the one-day course was Michelle Fahey.
Michelle, who is studying sports management and football studies, said: "It has been a great chance to improve my coaching skills and I would definitely recommend it to future students.
"I think having this new qualification at the university would be a great opportunity."

I would hope that the Uni would produce more Gary Lineker's rather than Wayne Rooney's. A few more Martin O'Neills would also be welcomed.

Need 11 different players not 11 Rooneys! Thought for one minute this was going to be a story about cloning...
