Councillor claims development would have destroyed village

A COUNCILLOR has claimed a victory for democracy after a developer's bid to build 36 homes on green belt land was rejected.

David Carroll, Wycombe District councillor for Greater Hughenden, said if B.U.T. Ltd had succeeding in getting the go ahead to build on Hoppers Farm, in Great Kingshill, it would have ruined the village.

The developer put in an outline application for 36 two-storey houses just before Christmas, but it was rejected on Thursday.

Cllr Carroll, who lives in Hoppers Way, said: "It would have destroyed the village feel. Everyone was concerned about it.

"We are delighted it has been turned down so we can keep the lovely village environment.

"For the road it goes onto, it would have brought more traffic through. Great Kingshill would have been no more.

"It is a triumph for democracy."

Hughenden Parish Council and The Chilterns Conservation Board were also against the 2.5 hectare development.

Yet again a case of NIBY's. Say no to building housing in the rural areas. But pack as many into High Wycombe, as they can. WDC Tories, have no consideration for the town. So long as the Tory voters on Kinghill and the like are looked after. If there is space to build then so be it. I hope the Developers press on, and appeal their application.

i wondered how long it would be until some dork on here said "oh its NIMBYISM" its not! we need to protect green belt, there are plenty of brownfield sites there is NO NEED to build on green belt, so belt up HWMAN!

Have a look in the mirror TQ and see the genuine 'dork article'.

HWMAN's correct and speaking common sense.

Within five years there will be no brownfield sites left in High Wycombe.
I know you find this hard to work out but they have to build on green field as there will be nowhere left to build for an ever rising
population/demand in South Bucks.

I would advise you to get your security fencing in quick because the towny scumbags with lots of public housing are going to be living next to you hopefully.

I had a look at the site using Google Earth and I really fail to see what is wrong with replacing farm buildings with residential buildings. From the air the site looks very much like an industrial site anyway!

There are lots of other green belt areas nearby.

Do farm buildings really constitute an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty?

Yes, obviously 32 more homes in there would instantly cause Gt Kingshill to disentegrate within the hour. "Don't build houses here 'cos we'll all die of oxygen starvation".

Be grateful that the plans weren't for blocks of flats. You might be green belt now but Labour will soon change that once they have ousted the House of Lords and have a free run. We'll probably have new laws and levies on a daily basis. Literally a blink and miss it situation.

I guess whilst hey are ripping into green belt - at least they aren't desecrating historical builds to shoehorn more flats into...

Right on the button by HWMAN and fred. Another example of the rural Tories looking after themselves and not caring for the town. There's a lot of stuff in the BFP about a Town Council for High Wycombe at the moment and maybe that's the answer to make sure that the people in the town get their say on important matters like this. The houses can't all come into the town for ever. There's plenty of green belt around as Pierre says and I agree how is a farm an AONB?

what a sorry state affairs it is when people like the above say its ok to build on greenbelt, very very sad and shameful and these people need to be eradicated, now!

It is the Labour government's policy to use brownfield sites first, so the Tory local govt were following guidelines - good luck fighting the inevitable appeal though!
