Bucks' care homes rated: full list
MOST care homes in south Buckinghamshire are average' according to inspections published for the first time.
Of the 69 homes in south Bucks 43 got two out of three stars, 17 had one star and two had no stars, a poor' rating.
Just seven homes - mostly for pensioners - got the top mark of three stars.
The results have been collected together for the first time by the Commission for Social Care Inspection.
Josephine Brader, director of the county branch of Age Concern, said pensioners and their relatives should look closely at potential homes.
She said: "Care homes should be inspected more often but, nevertheless, you can't just read the star ratings.
"You really need to go to each home and ask some very tough questions."
CSCI Chair Dame Denise Platt said: "These quality ratings reward the best providers with the recognition they deserve.
"They are also an incentive for the poorest to improve, or risk losing business in a competitive marketplace."
The information, at www.csci.org.uk, the only official directory of registered care services in England.

In your recent report on Local Care Homes, you stated The Croft in Amersham had been awarded a 1 star rating due to ‘odour’. The report you referred to was over 12 months old, the issue was speedily addressed at the time and I would therefore suggest that you may wish to publish a correction.
I visit The Croft daily and have never been anything other than delighted that my mother is cared for by such delightful, pleasant and caring staff in a place that she regards as her home. The cleaners do a magnificent job in keeping all aspects of the home clean.
I do think is such a shame that this report could have a negative effect on The Croft and the morale of the staff who do a great job, day in, day out.
